This week starts with Halloween and ends with Bonfire Night…well nearly! We have two focussed writing lessons: The Leaky Cauldron (persuasive writing) and The Cabin in the Woods (imaginative writing-creating a setting). In maths we have begun a unit on measuring and are continuing to develop our basic skills. We have a new YMI music tutor, Kim Richards who is teaching us tin whistle (6 weeks). On Thursday we have a badminton festival with Durness and Scourie pupils which is being led by a visiting badminton coach. Learning Logs This term we have started using learning logs to share some of the things we learn in school at home. We have begun to write our targets for literacy, numeracy and health and well-being in them. On Friday everyone takes them home for parents/carers to see; please sign and return to school on Monday. We have a busy term ahead of us with lots of new learning to do! We have a couple of tasks to finish off with our Clyde Street: WW2 project for this week. Next week we will begin a mini-topic before starting on our annual Christmas show. In writing this week we will begin to create different settings for imaginative stories. We will be working on our reading comprehension skills. Last term we assessed everyone’s spelling level so now we all have a weekly list of spellings to learn. We will working on the spellings in school but part of homework is to learn them too. On Fridays we will have weekly assessments. Last week of term already! Well done to everyone for completing a variety of different homework tasks this term. This week will be working hard to finish our historical group novels and write book reviews. Clyde Street is a dangerous place to be at the moment…the residents may experience the first bombing raids. On Tuesday we will be completing a handwriting challenge- S2 and Mr Galbrieth are going to be the judges. No matter who wins, we have all been trying to improve our handwriting this term. Also on Tuesday we look forward to showing you some of our learning from this term at parent’s afternoon. Our classroom will be open from 3.20 pm. On Thursday we will be joined by P4-7 pupils from Durness and Scourie for a music day with Mrs Muir. Finally on Friday we will be having a goodbye assembly for Mrs Robertson who is retiring from her position as headteacher. This week : Things to remember… Monday – P.E (hockey). Homework out.
