Yes that's right folks!
What a great year it has been too - now we have a few things to finish off this week, lots of practicing for our Prizegiving performances and we need to tidy up ! Remember to bring in a large shopping bag so you can safely take home all your wonderful creations. Thank you for taking time to read our class blog this year - have a great summer holiday, see you next term :) Every week since last August we have been doing homework....our spelling and reading has improved...our maths too. But now its time to bring our cheery red bags, any home reading books, spelling books...library books...the lot ! Why ? Homework is finished for this school year! Instead...have a go at the Wildlife Trusts ' Random acts of Wildlife.' Everyone has a poster to fill in- so enjoy yourself on the wildside :) This week we welcome the new P4's into our class and wish our P7's a good week in high school. We are writing some hilarious and poignant poems with the title ' If I were prime minister'. Keeping with the election theme we are also voting for this years Community Cup person. Everyone has a vote, the criteria being : Joining in, being helpful, inclusive, positive and respectful. Our Class News blog will continue to the end of term This week we are writing stories where the main character has a dilemma to solve . It should give us chance to practice the use of speech marks.
In maths we are using our multiplication facts to solve ‘in/out function problems. We are also starting a unit of work on data handling. On Thursday we begin the first of four swimming lessons. A slightly different week this week…On Wednesday we have a visit from the Scotland’s Wildlife Bus where we will be taking part in a workshop with staff from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. The theme is ‘ Seas, forest, mountains and moors’ This session looks at the main habitats in Scotland; woodland, lochs, rivers and wetlands, mountains, heaths and bogs, coasts and seas, farmland and croftland, and urban. We will learn the identifying characteristics of each habitat and discover how animals and plants are adapted to each one. Thurs/Friday we have our P6/7 joint schools residential trip to Ridgeways Adventure. Where we will be taking part in kayaking, raft building, shelter making, food foraging, abseiling …and lots more ! I’m sure we’ll have lots of great photos and stories to share when we get back. Meanwhile in basecamp KLB…we have a storytelling/drama workshop day with Durness and Scourie P1-5’s based on Scottish myths and legends. It's the Summer Term ! Welcome back everyone to the summer term :) I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are all refreshed for what looks like a very busy term! Our main focus this term is : Refresh, Repair and Renew. You can follow our progress on our website blog. This ties in very well with the Eco-Schools programme and the ‘developing the young workforce’ initiative. Every Wednesday from 2pm we will be out and about working on improving our outdoor spaces. Thursday/Friday : P6/7 will be following HS times for the Garden for All challenge. Their presentations will be on Friday at 2pm in the HS. Everyone is welcome to attend…and to vote too! Meanwhile P4/5 will be joined by P4/5 from Scourie Primary on these days. I will collect P6/7 homework bags on Friday from them in the HS. Lots happening this week ! On Monday P7’s will be at the high school for a transition day where they will be joining the S1 class and following their Monday timetable. Tuesday- All the primary school and nurseries will be together for a visit from the Commonwealth silver medal Judo champion- Stephanie Inglis. There will be a circuit’s session followed by a joint assesmbly. Friday is Red Nose Day. This year our P6’s will be organising some activities for everyone and will send out a leaflet home. In between all this we are learning about fractions, decimals, angles and compass points in maths. finding out about more amazing animal journeys in science and read, read, reading! On Monday P7’s will be at the high school for their second Goblin car build day. This week in maths we will be starting a new maths topic on measuring angles….protractors at the ready! In science we will be learning about some amazing animal journeys as well as looking at how our local rocks; Lewisian gneiss, quartzite, Torridonian sandstone and Durnesian limestone were formed…quite a long time ago :) In art with Mrs Poole we have now completed our landscape paintings (we will be posting them in the art gallery page soon).
